As a Head Kitchen Steward, it is your responsibility to ensure that the kitchen is maintained to the highest standards of sanitation and safety. The Head Kitchen Steward is the leader of the kitchen staff and is responsible for supervising and training staff, ensuring that food is prepared according to health and safety standards, and that the kitchen is kept clean and hygienic. Duties and Responsibilities • Supervise, lead and train kitchen staff; delegate tasks and ensure that all staff members are meeting production goals. • Monitor and maintain kitchen equipment and supplies to ensure that they are in good working order, and that they are properly stored and cleaned. • Ensure all kitchen staff adhere to health and safety regulations and guidelines. • Monitor food production and quality to ensure that all food is cooked and served properly. • Schedule and assign tasks to kitchen staff, and coordinate with other departments for their needs. • Ensure that kitchen waste is disposed of properly and that kitchen areas are kept clean and organized. • Monitor kitchen staff performance, and provide constructive feedback and guidance when needed. • Monitor and control kitchen costs, such as food and labor costs, in order to maintain a profitable kitchen. • Develop and implement kitchen policies and procedures, such as food safety, to ensure a safe and efficient kitchen. • Maintain records, such as employee time sheets, payroll, and inventory records. • Assist in menu development and pricing. • Maintain records of food orders and deliveries. • Schedule and coordinate special events and catering orders. • Assist in recruiting, hiring, and training kitchen staff. Skills and Qualifications • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a kitchen or food service setting. • Ability to work under pressure and remain organized and efficient. • Strong verbal and written communication skills. • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices. • Ability to manage and train kitchen staff. • Ability to work with a variety of kitchen equipment. • Knowledge of menu pricing and cost control. • Demonstrated leadership skills. • High school diploma or equivalent. • ServSafe certification preferred.
